All active responding members of an ACERT Full Member Team must possess a current certification equivalent to Red Cross or St.John Ambulance Standard First Aid and Basic Rescuer CPR 'C'. Within those certifications and in addition the following Basic Standards must be followed on each scene:
- Ensure scene is safe
- Assess the situation and activate EMS if required
- Obtain the patient's consent to treat, if possible
- Treat life-threatening conditions first, and provide care required to the level of your training
- Document your findings
- In situations requiring further emergency care, continue giving care until relieved by someone with equal or higher training
- Assist EMS and report your findings
- Maintain patient confidentiality
Team members will utilize universal precautions applicable to the scene and in accordance with local protocols.
Team members will be responsible for giving care to the level of their training and certification, but not beyond said training.
Currently accepted Standard First Aid and Basic Rescuer CPR procedures and techniques will be held as the benchmark for ACERT's Basic Standard of Care.
