The first aid competitions at both the MIXER and the NCCER provide excellent opportunities for teams to showcase their first aid skills in a challenging, yet fun way. ACERT sanctioned competitions generally have a preliminary competition, and a final competition. The 3 highest scoring teams from the preliminary competition qualify for the final competition.

Teams could encounter any of these forms of competition; a first aid test, scenarios, or a mass casualty simulation. The first aid test assesses the responder knowledge in the theoretical aspects of emergency response. Each 'scenario' the first aid team encounters are scenarios they could respond to on any university or college campus at any time. Mass casualties are typically an extreme version of a scenario that could happen on a university or college campus.
Within the scenarios and mass casualty events, teams of three work together to provide the best treatment for the casualties injured, and provide support to all people in need for a designated period of time. The first aid knowledge used is directly linked to their Campus Emergency Response Team's level of care (whether Standard First Aid, Advanced First Aid, etc).
Situations are graded by ACERT certified judges, or judges for which ACERT has deemed to have excellent first aid knowledge; either through their community experience or through their workforce training.
Winners of the First Aid Competition recieve Gold, Silver, or Bronze metals. The winning team retains prestige and glory until the next year's battle can be fought again!
