Board Structure
ACERT is led by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of members from campus emergency response teams across Canada. The Board oversees ACERT’s operations, supports member teams, and helps organize events like the National Conference of Campus Emergency Responders (NCCER).
President: The President oversees the day-to-day operations of ACERT, chairs the Board of Directors, and provides leadership across the organization. Responsibilities include hosting monthly Board meetings, ensuring the Board completes its work, acting as a signing authority, hosting annual Board elections, and running the Annual General Meeting at NCCER.
Vice President of Finance: The VP of Finance manages ACERT’s funds and financial records, oversees membership dues and expense reporting, acts as a second signing authority alongside the President, and keeps the association’s financial filings up to date.
Vice President of Communications: The VP of Communications is the primary point of contact between ACERT and its member teams. This role manages ACERT’s website and social media, keeps team contact information current, records meeting minutes, and steps in for the President when needed.
Board of Directors (General Members): General Board Members attend monthly meetings, take on new initiatives to support ACERT teams, assist executives with ongoing projects, help the host team plan NCCER, and join standing committees working on larger Board projects.
Board Applications
All Board roles are volunteer-based. Applications are typically accepted during the month of April each year, and the call for applications is sent directly to member teams.
Currently, all Board seats are filled. Check back in April for the next application cycle, or reach out to your team’s ACERT contact for updates.
When positions are open, they typically include:
| Position | Openings | Applicant Eligibility |
|---|---|---|
| President | 1 | Internal applicants only (current ACERT Board members) |
| VP Communications | 1 | Internal applicants preferred; open to external applicants under certain conditions* |
| VP Finance | 1 | Internal applicants preferred; open to external applicants under certain conditions* |
| Board of Directors | 7 | Open to internal and external applicants |
*For the VP Communications and VP Finance roles, external applicants will only be considered if two or fewer internal applicants apply. If one or fewer internal applicants apply, external applicants will be included in voting. External applicants are still welcome to apply regardless, though their inclusion in the final vote depends on the number of internal applicants.
When applications open in April, the call is sent directly to member teams. If you arepart of a member team, watch for that announcement or check-in with your team’s ACERT contact.
