What is NCCER?
The National Conference of Campus Emergency Responders is an annual event typically held in February. CERTs across the country sign up to host and the lucky team works alongside ACERT for months to organize the three-day-long event, consisting of keynote speakers, workshops, round tables, and the part everyone is most excited for: the competition.
Teams from dozens of campuses sign up to take part in the competition, consisting of multiple round robins designed to test their teamwork, first responder skills, and ability to perform under pressure. Judges score the teams at each situation using a standardized scoring sheet, and the four teams with the highest points move on to the mass casualty incident the next day. Attendees watch as each team enters the room and begins to triage and treat – it’s truly a sight to behold!
